“I found the Outsight lights to be reliable, easy to use and fast to set up. They give a beautiful colour rendition, and easy colour and brightness adjustability.”
Advanced LED lighting from Outsight was used to light a series of promotional TV commercials for Foundation Fighting Blindness, shot by Bill Bennett, ASC.
“The director wanted a high-end interview look for part of the spot, and then a casual documentary feeling for the other part,” explains Bill. “Since we were using actual locations – people’s houses – we had to pull the power from the wall. We did not have a generator, so needed to have lights that were very efficient.”
This was the first time that Bill had used Outsight lights. ”I have heard other cinematographers raving about them, and when offered the opportunity to use the lights for this show, I jumped at the chance,” he said.
The lighting units on the shoot comprised a Creamsource Sky, two Creamsource Doppio+ Bender units and a Creamsource Mini+ Bender. All fixtures were supplied with a SnapBag and Snapgrid.
“The Sky with the Snapbag gave me a beautiful large smooth source to light the interview, and the Snapgrid kept the light from spraying all over the walls and ceiling, reducing the contrast,” he says. “I used the Mini+ as a cool backlight, and the Doppio+ along with the Mini+ lit the documentary part, were we saw the subjects of the spot performing their special skills.
